Beyoncé rustles up all her cowboys and politely asks them to hit the dance floor for a new remix of her Cowboy Carter single “Texas Hold 'Em.” The track gets a new bounce, as well as a new lyric and breakdown in a “Pony Up” remix of the song that topped the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs when it dropped in February.
In addition to the new lyrics, the song has some new vocals, crack drums and new samples, as well as a breakdown in which Bey calls “all my cowboys on the dance floor” and then makes her request more urgent with a call to ” Get on the track!'
The new second verse kicks up the cowboy's righteous action with the lines, “I woke up this morning, my heart's racing”/ Straight to the bottom, we all need saving (Come get it on the floor now, ooh)/ I need you in this drought, take me downtown/ Leave the truck, whiskey, baby/ Let's spend the weekend wasted/ Might as well throw it all away (Woo-woo)/ And pony up, b–ch, don't wait for me .”
The song also ends with a new outro, in which Bey sings, “Pony up and salute your town/ Chasin' our sins away, very brown/ And I'll be damned if I can't dance with you/ Baby, drop that sugar and booze on me too/ Furs, spurs, boots'.
In addition to the remix, the singer also launched a mysterious new website this week, Becountry.com, which at the time of publication featured an image of a teenage Bey singing at the Texas Sweets contest, as well as a photo of the singer from her childhood, a contemporary photo of her in full cowboy giggles—furry locks included—a photo of a banjo and the reminder that “This is not a country album. This is a 'Beyoncé' album. Some members of the Beyhive noted this posters with Becountry images have been going around Los Angeles, assuming they could be a tease for an as-yet-unspoken Cowboy Carter tour.
