Growing up in Detroit, Eminem has long been one of Big Sean's idols. Sean Don has worked with Em before, but this time The Death of Slim Shady it was very special for the 36-year-old.
Bulletin board caught up with Big Sean on the red carpet ahead of the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards on Wednesday (September 11) at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, where Sean dished on collaborating with Eminem for “Tobey.”
“I'm happy to be a part of this album too. Sure, sure. [The Slim Shady LP] it was the first album I bought at Costco with my birthday money,” he explained. “That was way back. Be up The Death of Slim Shady it was a full-circle moment.”
“Tobey” happened to be a Detroit affair, as Eminem recruited up-and-comer BabyTron to round out the trio. The single peaked at No. 27 on the Billboard Hot 100. It marked the fourth Big Sean x Eminem team-up, following in the footsteps of 'Detroit Vs. Everyone”, “Without grace” and Detroit 2of “Friday Night Cypher.”
Eminem opened the 2024 VMAs with a powerhouse performance that saw him rock a blonde wig alongside a crew of Slim Shady clones during “Houdini.” She ditched the wig and things got more serious when Jelly Roll hit the screen for their rocking collaboration 'Somebody Save Me'.
It's a busy week for Eminem fans. The Detroit icon is set to make Friday the 13th terrifying when he drops more music packed as part of Tthe death of slim shady: Mourner's Extended Edition. As for Big Sean, his Better Me Than You The album arrived on August 30, and the LP debuted at No. 25 on the Billboard 200.
