Big Sean is back. The Detroit native delivered his first album since 2020 with Better Me Than You on Friday (August 30).
Sean Don's sixth studio album features 21 total tracks with features from Gunna, Charlie Wilson, Kodak Black, Bryson Tiller, DJ Premier, Cash Cobain, Teyana Taylor, Larry June, Eryn Allen Kane and more. There's even a shot of the iconic WWE superstar turned actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
Adding some comic relief, Big Sean tried Ray J's iconic call The Breakfast Club while feuding with Fabolous in 2011 on the same track that also features 2Pac's “I Ain't Mad at Cha.”
Ahead of the LP's delivery, Sean admitted in an emotional Instagram Live that he was apprehensive about the project's release.
“I'm having a hard time, man, I'm not gonna lie,” he said. “I've been trying to finish an album and I'm tired of overthinking it. … And, by the way, n—ah, like me, I'm trying to be sober—so—out here stalking his feelings, brother.'
He also made sure to credit his mother for helping him cope with these creative insecurities.
“I appreciate my mom being this guardian angel who always gives me these tips,” she added. “He really spoke to me. Like I said, I haven't slept much. I was giving it my all. I have burned the fk out. I'm tired. I do this for the people who fight with me.”
Big Sean impressed with a handful of singles in 2024, including The Alchemist-featuring “Together Forever” as well as “On Up,” “Yes,” “Ya Don't Stop” and “Precision.” He was also a guest on Eminem's The Death of Slim Shady single “Tobey” with BabyTron.
Sean has posted three consecutive No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 with the most recent coming in 2020 with Detroit 2. Better Me Than You it was originally scheduled to land on August 9 before being moved to the end of the month after a leak.
