This is the 3rd EP from Detroit, Michigan emcee Big Trip. Member of the collective The Umbrella, presented in 2021 from his first EP Bullet Tooth Tony followed by another Crasseux of course the full length debut album Filth Be Thy Name. All of this showed the underground what Big Trip could do on his own, but he felt Honestly Filthy would be up by the time Maryland emcee/producer Jamil Honesty was jumping behind the boards for it.
“And Now You Know” starts off hard by introducing you all to his sophisticated sound, while “Death Wish” goes the boom bap route talking organically about everyone out there who wants him dead. “Serenade” works in a pleasant sample of soul encouraging getting rich by being real and doing real shit before “Underplays & Overlays” with Ty Farris hooking the kicks and snares talking about making plays.
Kicking off the EP's second half, “Major League” ices them with a jazzy boom beat, while Jamil Honesty's “Gillie & Wallo” draws comparisons to the $1M Worth of Game hosts of the same name. “Filthy Cabaray” gives the middle finger to fame and scammers just want the money and finally, “Life's a Gamble” ends Honestly Filthy talking about some crazy shit who likens his team to gorillas and whips on the tank like Master P.
Being Big Trip's 4th self-released project in the 3 years since he started making waves in the underground, he now surpasses everything he's done before to quickly take the #1 spot as the crown jewel of his set. discography so far. The production cooked up by Jamil Honesty is a great improvement on what you've heard from Trip in the past, and the Detroit emcee hits some of the hardest lines of his career to date.
