George Birge opened a Bud Light and brought fans closer to his origin story, highlighting the importance of his Texas roots, how it keeps him calm on a day off and more in his delivery of the Billboard presents the Bud Light Backyard content series.
George Bird:
Growing up in Austin, country music is in your veins from the first parties you go to, to riding in the van or car with your mom and dad and hearing it on the radio. And I love the way it made me feel. I love the way it brought people together. And I knew that was always something I wanted to do. And I started playing guitar probably in seventh grade; I started a band my freshman year of high school, and Austin was really special compared to most cities because everyone had a band, and I was hooked from the first show I played. I fell in love with country music because it tells stories, it makes people feel something.
There is no feeling like going on stage. It's electric. Being able to connect that to that audience that has come out to sing songs with you, the camaraderie of being on stage with your band, your friends that have been through this with you through thick and thin.
The way we prepare is by having a beer, usually a Bud Light, and saying a quick prayer just saying thanks for the opportunity. When I think about country music, a good time comes to mind: There's never been a time where I've listened to country music and I'm not smiling or relaxing or just relaxing a little. I love to keep it easy. That's my lifestyle, whether it's in the backyard barbecuing by the fire playing guitar when I'm not playing. I like to go out with friends, with my family and I would like to drink cold Bug Light. As if that wasn't a perfect day, I don't know what is.
