Blake Shelton and Yellowstone Creator Taylor Sheridan is teaming up for a new singing competition series. CBS announced the series, with the working title The Roadfor fall 2025 on Monday (November 11).
The series puts a different twist on the typical talent competition set-up, with the singers joining a yet-to-be-announced artist on tour and performing as open acts at venues across the country. Singers will compete to win over local fans to secure a spot in the next city and stay on the tour.
The series aims to give viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the life of a touring artist, with behind-the-scenes access to the music industry, as viewers see what happens as up-and-coming artists pile onto a tour bus and battle a grueling schedule as they chase their musical aspirations.
Shelton and Sheridan are both executive producers of the series, along with Lee Metzger and David Glasser.
“I'm a huge fan of Taylor's incredible work and I'm excited to work with him and my longtime partner Lee on The Road,” Shelton said in a statement. “I know a thing or two about singing competitions and what it's like to chase a musical dream and live life on tour. I look forward to discovering new talent and giving them this platform.”
“There is a revolution in country music. Building a platform with Blake for the next leaders of this revolution is an incredibly exciting undertaking,” Sheridan added. “No more shiny floors and studio audiences. This is where the rubber meets the road – literally. Get in the van, go to the next city and beat the crowd. Do it enough and become the next leader. So simple.”
Shelton previously spent 23 seasons as a coach on the singing competition series The Voice and starred in the series Barmageddonin addition to his ongoing career as a 29-time Billboard Country Airplay artist topping the country charts. Shelton recently collaborated with Post Malone for the three-week No. 1 Country Airplay “Pour Me a Drink”. Sheridan, in addition to his work for Yellowstoneis known for shows such as 1883 (featuring country artists Tim McGraw and Faith Hill), 1923, Mayor of Kingstown and The Last Cowboy.
The Road Produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, Glasser's 101 Studios with Shelton and Metzger's Lucky Horseshoe Productions (Shelton and Metzger serve as executive producers for Lucky Horseshoe Productions). Metzger had previously worked with Shelton on both The Voice and Barmageddon.
“This project has been a true labor of love that Taylor, Blake, Lee and I have been talking about for some time,” Glasser said. “I can't thank CBS enough for supporting us on this journey to bring an incredible work to audiences everywhere.”
“Blake and I have been working together for a long time, and now joining forces with Taylor and David is literally the kind of team you dream of to bring something of this scale to country music fans,” Metzger added.
