In today's episode of BillboardOn Chart Rewind, we remember Blondie reaching the first of four number ones on the Hot 100 with their hit “Heart of Glass” in 1979.
Storyteller:
Blondie reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 this week in 1979. “Heart of Glass” was the group's first No. 1 hit on the chart. Co-written by lead singer Debbie Harry, the song brought an exciting new disco sound to the group. It was the first of four number one hits. They later reached number one again with “Call Me” in 1980, “The Tide Is High” in 1981 and “Rapture”, also in 1981.
Although the group continued to find success on the charts, it was “Heart of Glass” that paved the way.
