Over the past decade, 8G Band has not only provided the soundtrack to episodes of Late at nightbut also welcomed a number of musical guests, including St. Vincent, Tool’s Danny Carey, Turnstile’s David Fang and more. Now, season 12 of the show is set to premiere next month without a live band.
8G Band's departure was confirmed last June by the show's associate musical director, Eli Janney, who said Vulture who were victims of budget cuts. “Sadly, it’s the reality of streaming and a shrinking market: streaming eats this, and YouTube eats that. Budgets everywhere have been cut and cut and cut… Music is devalued.” Needless to say, the decision to cover a song called “Makes No Sense At All” was a not-so-subtle nod to the bewildering and unfortunate circumstances surrounding their exit.
Meanwhile, Armisen recently appeared in the music video for Lucius' new song, “Old Tape.” As for Mould, he'll be heading out on tour in 2024 next month, stopping in New York, Pittsburgh, New Orleans, Atlanta, and more cities this fall. Get your tickets here.
