Eurythmics' Dave Stewart also contributes to the legendary P-Funk bassist's latest track
Bootsy Collins assembles a crew of influential artists including Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa and Eurythmics' Dave Stewart for the P-Funk legend's latest single, “The Influencers.”
Fantaazma and Westcoast Stone, a pair of Collins' Bootzilla Records artists, also appear on the track, which offers a preview of what the bassist has been cooking up in his Cincinnati studio over the past year.
“I'm an influencer, you're an influencer,” Collins said of the piece in a statement. “Together we affect change in our journey through life. So hold on tight, because we're funny the rest of the night.”
Collins dropped his new single amid a handful of scheduled appearances at this year's SXSW, including a stop at Pourri's Funk Factory Experience presented by Rolling rock.
Last year, Collins came up with his own story for Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums podcast, in which he discussed the creation of Parliament Mothership connection LP. In the episode, which also features interviews with George Clinton, Fred Wesley and more, Collins unravels the stories behind “P-Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up),” “Mothership Connection (Star Child)” and the group's first gold single, “Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof Off the Sucker).”
“I'd say everyone was so 'on the same page' that we never thought about it,” Collins said on the podcast. “We were just having a good time. For me, one song didn't beat the other. So it was all like one big jam for me. Like a big jam party.”
