Bow Wow has opened up about his former lean addiction, which led to him being hospitalized at one point.
Lean, according to National Institutes of Healthis a combination of codeine and promethazine also known as “sizzurp”.
The Like Mike star recently appeared on The Art of Dialoguewhere he talked about his addiction and what finally drove him to get clean after seeing the stranglehold he had in his life around 2007.
“I was drinking lean,” he said. “I was drinking so much syrup. I said this after Mac Miller died. I spoke of this st. I drank it like crazy. If you go back and see The road to platinum series on BET, you'll see so many white styrofoam cups. I was losing my mind. This impossibility made me rise up. I was just always irritated.”
Bow Wow had reached a point of no return and knew something had to change after collapsing on stage one night while on tour with Chris Brown.
“We were on our tour, I was with Chris Brown, and the opening night was in Cincinnati, and when I came off stage, I collapsed,” he recalls. “I went straight to the University of Cincinnati Hospital. My stomach was so upset that I ended up going back home to Atlanta after the first show.”
Bowe continued: “I'm sitting in the hospital not knowing what's going on, and I come home and the st gets worse. I throw up, I shiver in bed, I sweat, I pass it. I didn't know I was having withdrawals. I was eating so lean.”
He credited his former publicist with the excuse of dehydration as the reason he left the tour when it was really due to being weak.
“I had the best publicist ever, Pattie Webster,” he added. “He put out a press release [saying I dropped out] for dehydration. It wasn't dehydration at all — I was emaciated… That's just good PR. We didn't want people to know that 18, 19-year-old Bowe was a heavy drinker.”
Bow Wow and Soulja Boy thought their days were running out “Touch” a track from their joint project in 2016 Ignorant S–t, named after the “purple drink”. “This is my first time playing king with this DJ Screw/ I can't even stay awake, that's what this skinny guy is gonna do/ Pour that bottle right into that juice/ If I take another sip of it, I'll finish ', Rap with a bow.
