(AXS TV) “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” is one of the most popular power ballads in rock history. Poison frontman Bret Michaels, the song's writer, revealed to Dan Rather how an unfortunate phone call after a gig inspired the somber tune.
“We finished, packed up and went back to a motel. I made a phone call and in the middle of that conversation it wasn't just my girlfriend's voice, but I could hear someone else's voice in the background,” Michaels recounted during of an interview with Dan Rather.
“I can say this: For anyone who's had their heart broken, it's so much more than just a broken heart. There's almost that feeling in your gut that feels like you're going to throw up,” Michaels said during a interview with Dan Rather. .
“This is literally the night I sat down with the acoustics and wrote 'Every Rose Has its Thorn.'”
