Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic has a history of protesting the referees, and apparently, Brian Windhorst has had enough.
On Wednesday (June 12), after Game 3 of the NBA Finals, the basketball reporter made an appearance on SportsCenter with Scott Van Pelt.
After being asked to respond to Doncic's foul with four minutes left in the fourth quarter, Windy blasted the Slovenian superstar for his decision to not only call a foul at the time, but to complain about the call.
His rant was so epic and so out of place for the usually subdued reporter that fans decided to make a meme out of it by putting the beats of “Meet the Grahams” and “Not Like Us” behind his vocals. I'm watching:
Here's Windhorst's full rant:
I thought it was perfect that Luca went down there in an unacceptable position to go into the four minutes with five fouls and then he immediately looks at the bench and says, “You better question it, like it's the bench.” it's his fault he just played a terrible game. I'm standing here in the Mavericks tunnel. There's the Celtics tunnel. There are the winners.
If Luka is ever going to be a winner coming out of this tunnel here, he's going to have to use what happened in these Finals as a learning experience. His defensive performance is unacceptable. It's a hole in the field. The Celtics attack him. They are ahead in this series because they have attacked him defensively. and you have a situation here where Luca is complaining about the refereeing. They begged him. they have spoken with him. they have begged him. Costs his team because of the way he treats the officials.
He is a brilliant player, he does many things well. He is here because of the way he did. His performance in this game is unacceptable and the reason the Mavericks won't win. He has to get over it and the fact that he came out after the game and blamed the referees showed me that he is nowhere yet.
So maybe in the summer, someone will reach out to him because nobody with the Mavericks or anybody else in his life has him, and that's where the Mavericks are at this point. They will never make it to that trophy tunnel if he doesn't improve those aspects of his game.
Luca — who is just 25 and making his first Finals appearance — had 27 points, six boards and six dimes, but it wasn't enough as his team now starts a 3-0 deficit. Boston Celtics.
No team in NBA history has ever come back from three games to none in the playoffs.
Here's a bonus fancam of Windy with 50's “Many Men” as the soundtrack.
It's beautiful when the NBA and Rap Twitter connect like this.
