“Shoes…More Shoes” will also raise money for LGBTQ+ charities
A couple of weeks after one interview that Bridgerton and Derry Girls Star Nicola Coughlan who gave it went viral after joking that she was making a song à la Real Housewives Countess Luann, officially turned that joke into reality. And he's using the song to raise money for good causes.
Earlier in June, Coughlan answered a question on the UK's Hits Radio X about what career she would have if she wasn't acting. “Sometimes I think, you know when the Real Housewives put out pop songs just for gay men?” he said. “This is, like, my dream job. Shoes and private yachts, caviar and other shoes. So I would keep your eye on this space for that song. I've got a lot more lyrics in me, don't worry.” She joked that she should be known as “the John Lennon of the west of Ireland”.
On Friday, Coughlan and her collaborator, Ellis Miah, released her magnum opus — “Shoes…More Shoes” — to major streaming services. Over a bouncy house beat, he rattles off glowing lyrics he improvised on the radio show: “Let me tell you something, money can't buy you class/It can buy you shitty shoes, private yachts, caviar, more shoes . » Towards the end she says, “This is for all you little lesbians out there… have you ever noticed that transphobic people have really kinky hair? That's karma, bitch.'
On Instagramwrote that the song would raise money for the organizations No Phase and the Trevor project.
“Like Lennon and McCartney and Dylan and the other great lyricists, I wrote my first song by improvising some vocal notes to Ellis Miah in the 30 minutes I had before getting ready to go to the Mighty Hoopla,” Coughlan wrote. “Thank you to all the Queer Icons and Real Housewives who have served as inspiration, I live for you. … Happy Pride.”
