Bright Eyes are back. On Tuesday, the group led by Conor Oberst announced a new album: Five dice, all threedue out September 20 via Dead Oceans, released a new single titled “Bells and Whistles” and announced a world tour.
Spanning 13 new tracks, Five dice, all three is Bright Eyes' first album since their return in 2020 Down in the weeds, where the world once wasand features contributions from Cat Power, Matt Berninger of The National and Alex Orange Drink of The So So Glos.

Speaking about it in a statement, the band's Nate Walcott explained that Five dice, all three “revisit the spirit of our oldest albums. “There is a real quality of chaos and ecstatic urgency to the performances.” Comparing it to their 2005 album. I'm wide awake, it's morningMike Mogis said: “It took us 20 years to make another record that sounds like a band playing live.”
To that end, Bright Eyes will go on tour to support Five dice, all three with an international tour kicking off in Brooklyn on September 19. From there, they'll play a few shows in the US, including Omaha, Los Angeles and a headlining set at Riot Fest in Chicago, before crossing the pond for dates in the UK and Europe. As for “Bells and Whistles,” it is an anthem filled with references to culture, places, the music industry, and more. “This is a song about the many small details in life that may seem insignificant, frivolous or temporary in the moment, but eventually end up shaping your destiny,” Oberst said. “And it's also kind of a whistle-while-you-work scenario.”
