Britney Spears and Sam Asghari have reached a divorce settlement that — when signed off by a judge — will officially end the pair’s 14-month marriage.
Asghari — who dated the singer for seven years before they married in June 2022 — first filed to divorce Spears in August 2023, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for ending the marriage.
At the time, it was reported that Spears had an “ironclad” prenuptial agreement with Asghari, one that his lawyer said he would not contest. “There are many claims that Sam is challenging the prenup and threatening to exploit his ex-wife with videos,” Brandon Cohen of BAC Talent told Rolling Stone. “However, all these claims are false, as no negative intention has ever been directed towards her and never will be. Sam has always and will always support her.”
However, the pending divorce lumbered on for eight more months until Wednesday, when documents filed in Los Angeles and obtained by Rolling Stone revealed the former couple’s respective lawyers have “a written agreement regarding their property.”
Details of the settlement were not disclosed in the documents per the prenup, but Asghari acknowledged “I knowingly give up forever any right to receive spousal or partner support.”
TMZ first reported news of Spears and Asghari’s pending settlement. When finalized, this would be Spears’ third divorce; she was briefly married to childhood friend (and uninvited wedding guest) Jason Alexande, and wed Kevin Federline in 2004.
Asghari commented on the split in August 2022. “After 6 years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together,” Sam wrote on his Instagram Story. “We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always.” Sam added, “Shit happens. Asking for privacy seems rediculous [sic] so I will just ask for everyone including the media to be kind and thoughtful.”
“As everyone knows, Hesam and I are no longer together … 6 years is a long time to be with someone so, I’m a little shocked but … I’m not here to explain why because its honestly nobody’s business,” Spears wrote on Instagram days later.
“I’ve been playing it strong for way too long and my Instagram may seem perfect but it’s far from reality and I think we all know that !!! I would love to show my emotions and tears on how I really feel but some reason I’ve always had to hide my weaknesses !!! If I wasn’t my dad’s strong soldier, I would be sent away to places to get fixed by doctors !!! But that’s when I needed family the most !!!”
