The singer, who completed his mandatory military service in June, will take part in the Olympic torch relay to spread the message of “harmony” and “peace”.
BTS member Jin will be a torchbearer for the 2024 Olympics in Paris this summer. He is scheduled to participate in the Olympic Torch Relay to spread the message of “harmony” and “peace,” according to a statement.
The oldest BTS member at age 31, Jin returned from his 18-month mandatory military service in June. The remaining six members of the K-pop group – which includes Jung Kook, V, Jimin, Suga, RM and J-Hope – are currently serving their military service.
Since Jin's comeback, he has announced plans to release a single and appear on TV variety shows this year, Yonhap News Agency mentionted. “I'm working on recording music and filming variety shows,” he wrote in a statement to the news agency. “I try to focus on my main job while showing my face as much as possible. The results will be out in a few months, so wait a little longer.”
Jin joined the South Korean military in December 2022, while J-Hope and Suga enlisted in April and September 2023, respectively. RM, V, Jung Kook and Jimin started their mandatory service in December. The K-pop supergroup will reunite in 2025. Jin spoke with Rolling rock in 2021, after taking a year off from touring due to the pandemic, and said the break gave him a chance to sleep, exercise, play games, watch movies and reflect.
“Especially when we were on tour, there was no time to think about myself and figure out what gives me joy, what makes me relax,” Jin said. “Being off the road for a year gave me a chance to really think about what I want and who I am and learn to love myself.”
