Tickets for Burning Man have been notoriously hard to come by, but they haven't sold out for the first time in a decade. The Guardian information.
On July 31, organizers put 3,000 last-minute tickets on sale in an “unprecedented” initiative they dubbed the “OMG Sale.” As of Tuesday, less than two weeks before the event in the Nevada desert was set to begin, tickets were still available. Scheduled for Aug. 25 and Sept. 2 with a capacity of 73,000, this year’s Burning Man in Black Rock City marks its 38th edition.
“Adjusting 2024 ticket sales to reflect recent trends around the world showing last-minute ticket purchases and continuing to sell tickets until Black Rock City’s peak population count is reached fosters immediacy and makes it easier for more people to immerse themselves in the heart of Burning Man’s global cultural movement,” said Dominique Debucquoy-Dodley, Associate Director of Communications for Burning Man Project. The Guardian.
Economic uncertainty and high cost of living could be factors, as well as concerns about the weather. After torrential rains ravaged the beach and left thousands stranded in 2023, it's fair to wonder if extreme conditions scared people away this year. In 2022, Burners fought with sweltering temperatures of up to 105°.
From a financial standpoint, getting to Black Rock City every year can be a daunting task. While tickets start at $575 and there are options available for low-income people, many people spend much more just to get to the event, let alone fund art projects and participate in themed camps.
