Cage the Elephant have confirmed the release of their new album, neon pillalong with an extensive North American tour.
neon pill, the band's sixth full-length album, arrives May 17 via RCA Records. The album, consisting of 12 tracks, was recorded after a series of traumatic events, including the deaths of several family members and close friends (including Matthew's father and Brad Shultz), as well as the collapse of Matthew's mental health.
“Me, neon pill “It’s the first album that we were consistently not influenced by, and I say that in a positive way,” Matthew said in a statement. “Without a doubt, everything is expressed through having decided to find our own voice. We have always been inspired by artists we love and sometimes even emulated some of them to some extent. With this album, after having been through so much, life had almost forced us to feel more and more comfortable with ourselves. We weren't looking much beyond the pure experience of self-expression, and at the same time, we weren't necessarily settling either. We simply find a uniqueness in the simple fact of existing.”
Cage the Elephant initially previewed the album with the release of the album's title track, “Neon Pill,” last month. To coincide with today's announcement, they shared a second preview in the form of “Out Loud.”
The band's supporting North American tour spans more than 45 dates and includes appearances at festivals such as Bonnaroo, Hangout Music Festival and Oceans Calling. Young the Giant will serve as main support for the majority of the tour's upcoming dates.
