Regard has released “Call On Me,” a vibrant reincarnation of the vocal sample from Eric Prydz's seminal hit of the same name, only reimagined for a new era of dancefloors.
The “Ride It” producer, who has seven number one hits at US dance radio and over five billion streams to his name, comes to Thrive with his latest anthem. His nuanced production shines through an infectious house arrangement that glistens with chart-topping potential and maximalist energy.
Breathing new life into a classic while simultaneously shaping its own identity, Call On Me speaks to the wonderfully cyclical nature of dance music. Regard was just 11 years old when Prydz released his iconic song in 2004.
“Release day is just one day, but the record is forever,” Regard said. Instagram.
Going back even further, the song’s iconic chorus has its roots in the 1982 release of Steve Winwood’s “Valerie.” Co-written by Songwriters Hall of Famer Will Jennings, that song is about the story of American singer Valerie Carter, who sang backup vocals for legends like James Taylor and Jackson Browne before launching into a fascinating solo career. Beloved for her sultry voice, Carter sadly battled substance abuse issues before dying of a heart attack in 2017 at the age of 64.
