Unbeknownst to many, Cam'ron was supposed to be one of the first artists to be part of The Notorious BIG's record label, Undeas, before Biggie's untimely death.
Fast forward a few decades and a few record labels later, Cam'ron is reflected the first time he met the Hip-Hop legend/icon and admits he was really impressed by New York's OG King. In his last episode It is what it isKilla Cam recalled his first interaction with Biggie after co-host Treasure “Stat Baby” Wilson opened up about LeBron admitting he felt like Michael Jordan was “Black Jesus” when he first met the NBA GOAT.
While Cam wouldn't go so far as to call Biggie any kind of rehash of “Jesus,” he felt the man was a different deity in the Hip-Hop game. “I'll be completely honest with you, when Mase took me to Biggie Smalls' house, I was like, 'Son.' We did,” Cam'ron said. Back when Biggie reigned supreme in the rap game, just seeing him on the street would be enough for any Hip-Hop head to feel blessed, but meeting him in person would be next level.
“You gotta understand, Mase already has songs with Biggie and they worked together,” Cam'ron continued. “But I really wasn't going to the studio at first because, you know, Mase had to get his foot in the door, so I just had to stay home a lot at first because it was his turn. And it wasn't to bring the whole crew and bring everybody to the beginning. So I didn't meet Biggie at first.”
Although Cam didn't get to meet Rap Gawd for a minute until Mase finally became a rap star in his own right, he finally found his moment and did what he was born to do, rap.
“When Mase sent me over to Biggie Smalls' house to rap for him, I acted like I'd been there a thousand times. No smiles, no handshakes, no “Son, what's up?” Drop the beat and I'll rap — that was it.'
Likening that moment to LeBron meeting Jordan for the first time, Cam said, “Yeah, that was probably it for me.”
We feel you, Killa.
