Tony Todd, the actor best known for his role as Candyman in the horror/slasher film franchise, he died. He was only 69 years old.
Deadline was the first to report Todd's tragic death. His long career spanned the 1980s and featured many acting roles.
He appeared in films such as Platoon, His night the living deadthe Final destination franchises and TV series such as Star Trek: The Next Generationwhere he played Worf's brother's long-lost brother, Kurn. It appeared in others Star Trek TV franchises, such as Deep Space Nine and Traveler.
Todd is a legend in the horror world thanks to his role as Candyman, the killer who appears when you say his name three times while standing in front of a mirror.
His performance as the ghost of Daniel Robitaille, an African-American born in 1800 and the son of a slave who became a famous painter, later becomes the victim of an enraged lynch mob sent by the father of a white woman with whom he had a romantic relationship, earned him a Lifetime Award Achievement at the New York Horror Film Festival.
He would revive the role in 2021 Candyman sequel, directed by Nia DaCosta, starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Colman Domingo.

The big and small screen wasn't the only place where Todd made his living. He was beloved in the realm of video games, lending his voice most recently Marvel's Spider-Man 2 as the voice of Venom and is in the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Great Circle video game.
Insomniac Games, the studio behind the PlayStation Spider-Man games, shared a statement about Todd's death: “Insomniac Games is heartbroken by the passing of our friend Tony Todd.”
The statement continued, “He brought so much joy to our studio during the production of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and to many fans around the world with his inimitable voice and presence. We are Venom…forever.”
Tony Todd will be missed by fans, but his presence will live on forever through his many contributions to film, television and video games.
