Cardi B has delivered many assists in her decorated career, but her upcoming collaboration has an extra special meaning for her.
The Bronx native will check another item off her bucket list when she teams up with Shakira for a collaboration later this month. Cardi explained how she ended up on a track with the Colombian pop star during a recent interview with Million Dollaz worth game.
“I've always wanted to do a record with Shakira and it's like, wow, she fell into my lap. She really fell into my lap, so I put out a record with her the next week,” he said. “He's like, 'F—h, I'll do whatever you want me to do, f—h.' I will fly to Colombia.' Like I'm going there now.”
Cardi explained that she met Shakira during Paris Fashion Week earlier this year and revealed that her sister won a talent show performing one of Shak's songs when they were growing up. Soon after, the 'Hips Don't Lie' singer's team arrived.
“I saw her in Paris and talked to her,” Cardi added. “I don't like to be involved in this. I'm like, “Yeah, my sister did a talent show when she was in first grade and she won by doing your song! I just love you so much, like you're a part of my life.' And then her team approached me. I'm like, “Oh, Shakira, Shakira.” I shut up.”
The anticipated collaboration remains untitled, and based on Cardi's schedule, it should arrive before the end of March. The 31-year-old isn't taking her foot off the gas pedal in 2024 — even though she doesn't have her driver's license.
Cardi lit the fuse with the Hot 100 top 40 hit “Like What (Freestyle)” earlier this month and will score another high-charting entry with the fiery “Enough (Miami)” next week. And while she hasn't announced a title or release date for her long-awaited sophomore album, the rapper has hinted that it could be out later this year.
