It's been a good summer for fans of Cardi B. Just two months ago she sadly informed Bardigang that the long-awaited follow-up to her 2018 breakthrough album, Breach of privacyshe probably wouldn't go out this year because she was focusing on “chilling out” and enjoying her summer.
Then on Thursday (July 18) she appeared to have a change of heart on the eve of the release of her new collaboration with Rob49, 'On Dat Money'. In a post on X, Cardi explained that she's rethought the chill zone and plans to drop new music eventually. “I want to say this to the Bardy gang or anyone who is just a fan of my music or even my craziness… I have my good days and my bad days, but you know what, whether it's good or bad, I couldn't be happier with the obvious looking forward to my album,” he wrote before dropping the good news.
“Sometimes I get a little aggressive because I know I don't like being told what to do, but I promise you it will come THIS YEAR. Thanks for the love and anticipation and always holding me down. I love you,” he added.
Cardi immediately made those dreams come true with her glitzy cameo in New Orleans MC Rob49's video for “On Dat Money,” in which the rapper serves as point man to a mansion filled with exotic dancers as a torrential downpour of bills from $100 drops everywhere. him. While Rob quickly abandons his stacks, Cardi rides shotgun in his cash-laden car with Jackie O vibes, wearing oversized sunglasses, a fur wrap, a black head scarf, impossibly long black nails, and bright red lipstick. Elsewhere, Cardi lies in bed covered in bills and rocks a red firefighter miniskirt, knee high boots and jacket as Rob raps, “F–k me on that money, b–ch/ B–ch, f–k me on that money” over the song's snare beat.
Midway through the track, Cardi gets in on the action, rapping, “Yeah, I'm makein' there with that money/ I ride d–k on my feet, hoppin' like a bunny/ I'm a freak, whore me out, you're gonna see me sick,” in another of her signature earworms, as thong-wearing dancers twirl on stripper poles behind her.
The pop-in on Rob's song follows Cardi's release of two laid-back singles earlier this year, “Enough (Miami)” and “Like What,” and a number of other features. It also comes after she blasted rapper/podcaster Joe Budden on Thursday for his critical take on the release of her long-awaited sophomore album on Rob49's first single.
“Brother, I gave you a lap dance twice at Starlets. You were high as f–k. High as f–k on coke, n–a… I don't give an af–k when people talk about me,” Cardi fumed. “It's the fact that you're always talking about me Joe Budden. Out of nowhere, you'd think I did something to that n—a… For the past two years, that n—a has only been talking bad things about me.”
After blasting Joe for constantly comparing other female rappers to her, Cardi really got real. “But you really want my album out so you can criticize it. Because every time I drop something you don't like it,” he said. “Every time ab-h drops something and does mediocre, you say they do better than me… What do you say? The s–t is on the move. Merchandise is on the move, box sets are on the move. You don't know s–t.”
In a recent pod, Budden confidently predicted that Cardi wouldn't be releasing another album with her caretaker, saying, “We're not getting another album. I stand on it.” Rolling rock reported that a representative for Cardi confirmed to the magazine that she will release an album this year.
