After giving birth to her third child earlier this month, Cardi B says the public pressure on artists to quickly lose the baby weight is unrealistic and unfair. On Monday (September 16), the “Bongos” rapper hit back at a fan who commented on Cardi’s post from the day before, featuring footage of the MC’s first workout since giving birth. “It's only been a week. Oh, the pressure women face in the industry? Crazy,” the person wrote.
The comment came after Cardi shared one [since timed-out] video on Instagram Stories on Sunday, in which she hit the gym for 30 minutes of tough evening cardio on a StairMaster, just two weeks after giving birth to her third baby, a girl, on Sept. 7, with estranged husband rapper Offset . “This is my 3rd baby and postpartum is a little different than my first two… I don't lift, I don't muscle, I don't squat any of that… just cardio,” Cardi wrote.
“Sometimes to avoid postpartum depression you have to keep your mind busy and for me that's work and staying active… but you know what's funny? You put me down when I gained 15 pounds because I was 5 months pregnant, but now you're fake worried and want to talk about pressure???” she added. “You said I was pregnant to avoid working now that you see I'm still at it is something else?? Well, yes, I take that personally, but it's FOR ME because you'll have something to say anyway.”
The fan quickly clarified that she “didn't mean any harm” with her tweet and didn't mean it as an indictment of Cardi, “but rather society's expectations of women and the 'snap back' culture.” Cardi said it was fine, replying, “Totally baby!! And I do agree about the society and the pressure… I've never been the type to care about the bounce back after giving birth. I don't know what it is this time, but I have this burst of energy where I want to do everything… It's like I want to accomplish all my goals in one day.”
On Monday, Cardi also posted some home movies from the hospital in which she and Offset spend quality time with their baby girl, whose name has yet to be revealed. In the TikTok clip, we see Cardi nursing and snuggling her third bundle of joy, as well as Offset enjoying some skin-to-skin contact as their two other kids together, Kulture, 6, and Wave, 3, meet the new their brother.
Cardi, who filed for divorce from Offset for the second time earlier this summer, has been hard at work on the long-awaited follow-up to her 2018 debut studio album. Invasion of privacywhose release date is yet to be announced.
