Carly Pearce has live shows scheduled until 2025, largely in support of her fourth studio album hummingbirdreleased on June 7th. The country singer-songwriter has spent most of her career on the road, but her upcoming shows will be adjusted according to her doctors' advice after being diagnosed with the heart disease pericarditis.
“I've always been transparent and honest in every part of my life, so I feel like I deserve the same honesty,” Pearce said in a recently shared Instagram post. “You know I've had some health issues and through that, I've developed something called pericarditis, which is a problem with the heart. And I've been working with doctors and I've talked to my cardiologist and I still want to be out on the road.”
According to American Heart Association, pericarditis is “inflammation of the pericardium, a sac-like structure with two thin layers of tissue that surround the heart to hold it in place and help it function. A small amount of fluid keeps the layers apart so there is less friction between them as the heart beats.” Common symptoms of the condition include chest pain caused by inflammation that can resemble the pain associated with a heart attack.
“We've all decided it's in my best interest as I heal to change my shows a bit,” explained Pearce. “So if my looks look a little different, just know it's because I have to keep my heart rate under control right now. And that doesn't mean I won't be completely fine, it just means that right now I have to take it really seriously.”
The musician asks her audience to extend “a little grace” as she finds her footing in navigating this situation. “If you're coming to the shows, if you're going to be a part of any of the amazing things we have hummingbird, everything will be great. It just might look a little different,” Pearce continued.
Pearce also wants this development to be a lesson for her fans, who she encourages to pay close attention to certain health signs they may be receiving from their bodies. “And really, most importantly, whether any of you are into any kind of health issues or not — I'm a young, healthy person who really watches what I eat and exercise, and this happened to me… I just want to use my platform to tell you take care of your body and listen to it. And just know that if he's trying to tell you something, he's going to tell you,” he said.
