The ever-expanding universe by Caroline Polachek's Desire, I want to turn into you it has not yet exhausted its resources. The singer continues to mine his content for fresh material, this time showcasing “Butterfly Net” with an impressive performance from Weyes Blood.
The “Butterfly Net” remix will appear on the next release Desire, I Want To Turn Into You: Everasking Editionreleased on February 14th. A Valentine's Day gift to her fans, the record will also feature Polachek's recent single “Dang,” which arrived in October.
Weyes is the latest partner to help with the transformation Desire, I want to turn into you. Last year, Polachek enlisted Charli XCX and 1975's George Daniel for a revamped version of “Welcome To My Island.” The original album featured collaborations with Grimes and Dido.
In a review of Desire, I Want To Turn Into You, Rolling Stone wrote: “'Butterfly Net' is a glowing ballad where slow-burning instrumentals, including a sleepily played vintage organ, allow Polachek's impassioned vocals to take center stage.” A children's choir enters at the end, but only for a minute, dashing any hope of redemption in a way that mirrors the frustration of the song's central metaphor of a butterfly net “trying to catch your light.”
“Butterfly Net (featuring Weyes Blood)” comes on the heels of Polachek's performance at the 2024 Grammy Awards, where her album was nominated for Best Engineered album, Non-Classical. Desire, I want to turn into you lost to Victoria Monét's Jaguar IIbut he said Rolling rock on the red carpet that it still felt special to be recognized for the sound of her album.
“It's really, really important [nomination] for me, because I really put so much love and so much time into the engineering and editing behind the whole album,” said Polachek, who was previously credited as a producer. “And the devil really is in the details when it comes to music.”
