After conquering the pop world for the better part of the 2024, Charli XCX is set to transition into acting with a number of upcoming film roles, including Romain Gavras’ Sacrifice and Greg Araki’s I Want Your Sex. If there was any doubt that the UK singer has the acting chops, look no further than her debut turn as host on Saturday Night Live over the weekend, where she delivered a number of scene-stealing performances.
Among the highlights was a sequel to SNL’s recent viral sketch centering around heartthrob Domino (played by Marcello Hernandez) and his mistress Kelsey (Chloe Fineman). The original skit starred Ariana Grande as part of a group of bridesmaids recounting a bachelorette party set to the tune of Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso.” In the sequel, Charli stepped in the place of Grande as celebrated Kelsey’s pregnancy by sharing the story of their “one last girls trip” set to the music of Chappell Roan’s “HOT TO GO!”
Charli also starred in a SNL digital short alongside Andy Samberg called “Here I Go”; appeared in Meet Cute parody with the guys of Please Don’t Destroy; spoofed Adele and her “Sweat” tour mate Troye Sivan in a sketch centered around auditions auditions for Wicked; competed in a Thanksgiving baking competition; and played the producer of a Bro podcast.
