Although already the driving force behind the powerful KNTXT label, Charlotte de Witte has announced that she is forging another artist-led record company to join her ranks.
Titled Époque, the upcoming record label further evidences De Witte's unwavering commitment to the preservation and active evolution of techno music's rich heritage. A celebration of the genre's history in its home country of Belgium, Époque's mission will seek in part to breathe new life into iconic tracks from the country's vibrant underground club scene of the late '90s and early '00s.
“Époque is a Belgian label and nightlife archive of KNTXT and yours truly,” commented de Witte. “In collaboration with clubs and labels, past and present, we capture the spirit and lifestyle of our old club culture. The Époque label remixes iconic tracks, revives dance classics and uses memories and club aesthetics to translate them into new unique songs produced by the current electronic scene.”
He will christen the new label with his reinterpretation of “Universal Nation”, a song that has achieved legendary status in the field of techno. Initially conceived as a B side releasePush's original album became a defining anthem of its era.
