Country star plays an angel called to save Fred Durst during cover of 'Behind Blue Eyes'
It was a season of unexpected cross-genre collaborations for Jelly Roll as — two weeks after the country star shared the Stagecoach stage with T-Pain — he appeared alongside Limp Bizkit on Friday in Daytona Beach, Florida's Welcome to Rockville festival .
Both Jelly Roll and Limp Bizkit were on the lineup Friday, and during the latter's set and their cover of the Who's “Behind Blue Eyes,” frontman Fred Durst told the crowd repeatedly, “I need an angel to come out here and save me. Throw something from the sky. I don't care what it is, please save your brother Freddy!”
As invited, Jelly Roll then appeared on stage with Limp Bizkit to deliver the song's second verse:
Behind the scenes, Durst kept up the angel schtick, as evidenced by an exchange between the singer posted on Instagram.
“Once in a while, every once in a while, you get blessed and you meet an angel…” Durst told the camera before walking over to Jelly Roll, who quipped, “Oversized, baby. And a black ball hat like Johnny Cash.”
The country singer has immersed himself in rock music in 2024, first covering Bon Jovi at a MusiCares gala for Jon Bon Jovi and appearing at rock-oriented festivals like Welcome to Rockville.
After a summer on the road at music festivals, Jelly Roll will embark on the Beautifully Broken tour, a journey that will hit 37 arenas across North America later this year. This tour kicks off August 27th in Salt Lake City, Utah and runs through October 27th in Charlotte, North Carolina.
