Cher finally joined the ranks of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees on Saturday night as a member of the class of 2024.
After years of not receiving even a Rock Hall nomination, the legendary singer expressed her disinterest in a possible induction as recently as last year. “I wouldn't be in this right now if they gave me a million dollars,” she commented during a conference. interview about Kelly Clarkson Show in 2023. “I'm not kidding. I was about to say something else, I was about to say I'm not kidding you. I will never change my mind. They can just say you know what themselves.”
However, after her induction on Saturday, Cher adopted a more conciliatory tone. Aside from joking that it was “easier to divorce two men” than to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the singer used her acceptance speech to share her story of resilience and thank her mother for believing in her and push her to never give up.
Cher was introduced by Zendaya, who said: “[Cher’s] Her name is as legendary as her legacy… Her voice is so unique that any song she sings becomes a Cher song. “He has navigated a multitude of musical genres, defined new ones and reinvented others.” He also took the stage to perform “Believe” alongside Dua Lipa.
Next month, Cher will release the first part of his memoirs.
