Cher has joined the throng of fellow artists who have made their distaste for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame clear, saying in a recent interview that the people behind the organization “can go on their own.”
The pop legend was a guest on a recent episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, during which host Clarkson pointed out that Cher has No. 1 hits spanning seven decades – a milestone shared only with the Rolling Stones.
“It took four of them to be one of me,” Cher said with a laugh. “And I'm not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! You know what, I wouldn't be in it now if they gave me a million dollars. I'm not kidding. I was about to say something else — I was about to say I'm not fucking you. I never change my mind. They can just go themselves.”
As Ultimate Classic Rock points out, Cher has been eligible for a Rock Hall Induction since 1991, but has never even been nominated. She scored her first No. 1 hit with Sonny and Cher's 1965 hit “I Got You, Babe,” and this October's “DJ Play a Christmas Song” topped the Advertising sign Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales Chart.
“I changed music forever with 'Believe,'” Cher continued. We can't argue there. Check out her look The Kelly Clarkson Show below.
The Rock Hall Class of 2023 included Rage Against the Machine, Willie Nelson, Missy Elliott, and Kate Bush, just to name a few. As for Cher, her Christmas album is out now, with contributions from Stevie Wonder, Cyndi Lauper, Michael Bublé and even Tyga.
