Childish Gambino teams up with British singer-songwriter Jorja Smith and Ghanaian American star Amaarae on new track “In the Night,” which was released Tuesday. The track relies on warm synths and a throbbing baseline to unravel the deep desire of a forbidden love. “Why at night, I dream of you/ No matter what I do,” sings Gambino, real name Donald Glover, on the chorus.
The song, co-produced by Gambino, DJ Dahi and Kurtis McKenzie, is the final track from his sixth and final album, Bando Stone & the New World. Gambino played every track from his latest album for fans at New York's outdoor venue Little Island on July 6.
'In the Night' follows the release of Max Martin and Ludwig Göransson's 'Lithonia', which also appeared on Bando Stone & the New World. At the 2024 BET Awards in June, Gambino unveiled a trailer for a film of the same name that follows Gambino starring as Bando Stone. Gambino dropped hints about the new album on his Instagram live, saying: “I feel like there are people who don't have enough fun… When I was a kid, there were big things that would bring us together and I feel bad for you all. I feel bad for some of you all.'
Gambino was taken by surprisealbum-1235018778/”> Atavistic in May, a remastered version of the 2020 LP 3.15.20, which also featured two new tracks, “Atavista” and “Human Sacrifice”. Other tracks include songs like “Time” featuring Ariana Grande and “Psilocybae” featuring 21 Savage, Ink and Kadhja Bonet, originally titled “12.38”.
Gambino will kick off his New World tour on August 11th with Willow as special guest. Stops on the New World tour include Oklahoma City, Detroit, Philadelphia, Brooklyn and Atlanta. The tour wraps up in Chicago on October 3rd before embarking on the international leg.
