This is the debut full length album from Brooklyn emcee Chyna Streetz. Starting in the spring of 2018 with her debut EP Weird Girl Anticsfollowed this up with 2 more EPs in the form of both Hourglass & More recently Visions respectively. This is what he said: I knew it From hell to Chanel was supposed to be the next artistic evolution for Chyna compared to those early EPs. Especially considering the fact that RFC Music Group's in-house producer, 183rd, did everything from top to bottom.
“Chanel Boy” opens mixing a flute with kicks and snares exclaiming that we let the right one in, while “Emerald City” has a cloudier vibe talking about those who move sloppy even when they're the ones rolling the dice. “Sirens Lullaby” goes straight to g-funk reminding everyone that they heard the fact that she's been moved on leading to Rome Streetz joining wife Chyna on “Matrimony” talking richly about how it's still hard to believe that they found the plug.
Continuing from there, “Bernadine's Rage” exudes a funky boom bap vibe declaring herself a goddess just before “Dark Night of Soul” looks passionately to make the moment count for a minute and the beat amps up the aspirational mood quite a bit. “Entitled” has that hint of mockery that encourages you to make your next move the best, but then “888” jumps over some strings as well as kicks and snares talking about your born to shine.
“One of One” takes to the spacious turf of boom bap by breaking down its singularity, while the Ox Omni-featuring “Right Back” combines kicks and snares with an over-the-top instrumental beat that speaks of sending shots back exactly where they came from. “Judas Kiss” closes the LP by admitting that he'll never know if it was worth it, and that even if we know some have tarnished their names, the roses still grow.
The trilogy of EPs we've gotten from Chyna over the past 6 years has shown her artistic progression and From hell to Chanel brings her full circle to the point where I could argue that it's her most consistent work to date in my personal opinion. She's grown as a songwriter and 183rd's production is much more streamlined than her previous material.
