Brujeria co-vocalist and samplist Ciriaco “Pinche Peach” Quezada has died at the age of 57.
The extreme metal band’s founder Juan Brujo posted the news on Brujeria’s Facebook page along with the following message:
“I never thought I would have to do something like this. This is not easy for me. So here I am with very heart breaking news. This news hurts more then anything else Ive ever announced here before…
Pinche Peach of Brujeria passed away last night from serious heart complications.
As a long term member of Brujeria he was the unmasked face of Brujeria! He was the ‘star’ of all our song videos. Videos like ‘La Migra’ to ‘El Patron del Reventon’.
The band and I will miss you dearly. We love you and loved working with you! You will not ever be forgotten!! He was my best friend, my bro, my bandmate, and my cousin.”
Pinche Peach joined Brujeria in 2006 and, as Brujo mentioned, became the de facto face of the band as its only unmasked member, adding to Brujeria’s unique gang-vocals approach and triggering samples live.
The band also features notable member Jessica Pimentel, the Orange Is the New Black actress who performs under the name La Encabronada.
Pinche had been announced as part of the band’s lineup for Brujeria’s recently announced US tour, which is still slated to kick off August 29th in Long Beach, California. The outing includes both headlining dates and support slots on GWAR’s fall tour (tickets here).
