Coldplay have announced the arrival of their 10th studio album. Music of the Moon. The continuation until 2021 Music of the Spheres will be released on October 4th.
Produced by Max Martin Music of the Moon will be available in various formats that meet the “new sustainability standards”. The team has long focused on sustainability, having so far produced 59 percent less CO2 emissions on their current tour compared to their previous stadium tour, according to a press release. Coldplay continues their sustainability efforts with four physical editions of their upcoming album — standard EcoCD, standard numbered EcoRecord rPET LP, Notebook Edition EcoCD and Notebook Edition Numbered EcoRecord rPET LP+ EcoCD. Each of the first editions released will be individually numbered and there will also be a limited number of hand-made editions available.
The 140g EcoRecord rPET LP version will be the first of its kind ever produced. Each replica will be made from nine recycled PET plastic bottles obtained from post-consumer waste. Compared to traditional 140g vinyl, this approach will prevent the use of 25 metric tons of virgin plastic, while also reducing 85 percent of CO2 emissions during the manufacturing process.
An additional format comes via a collaboration between Coldplay and Ocean Cleanup. The Notebook Edition EcoRecord rPET LP will consist of 70 percent river plastic intercepted by the organization from Rio Las Vacas, Guatemala. Both the Notebook rPET LP and EcoCD editions come as a hardcover book with a sleeve, which mirrors singer Chris Martin's studio notebook. Includes 28 pages of never-before-seen sheet music, lyrics, and illustrations. Music of the Moon. The Notebook Edition editions will also include additional vocal notes and demos from the album recordings.
In the meantime, Music of the MoonThe CD releases mark another first as an EcoCD made from 90 percent recycled polycarbonate derived from post-consumer waste. This will reduce CO2 emissions in production by at least 78 percent, avoiding the use of more than five metric tons of virgin plastic.
Earlier this month, Coldplay premiered “All My Love” at their first concert in Athens, Greece. Although they have yet to release its tracklist Music of the Moon, the song is a possible album contender. Martin told the Athens audience that they weren't supposed to hear it until September, which is just before the album arrives on October 4.
The LP's first single, “feelslikeimfallinginlove,” will be released this Friday, June 21, and may pre-saved before its release. Music of the Moon is also available for pre-order.
