Perception control, fearless heroes: Dungeons & Dragons works with Reverse to release a limited edition collaboration to celebrate the game's 50th anniversary, available online from April 11. Geared up for retro roleplayers, the collection of new shoes and apparel is designed around elements from the early sourcebooks, including monsters, evil wizards and, of course, dragons.
With prices starting at $35the collection offers several exclusives Chuck Taylor All Stars and Chuck 70 designs that feature illustrations and other elements from its very first edition D&Dplayer's handbook (1977-1983), when the game was still called Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. The All Stars canvas features IYKYK illustrations of Kelek the Sorcerer, Warduke the Fighter and Zarak the Assassin from the 80s D&D action line and the 1983 supplement”The Shady Dragon Inn“.
There is also an alternate version of the star logo on the Chuck 70s leather high topshaped to look like a 20-sided die used for playing D&D Instead. For children, there are a couple low and high sneakers which even feature a D20 on the side that “rolls” when you walk. The level of detail is insane here, with some sizes featuring the history of the game on the tongue lining, and select pairs also have a character sheet design printed on the opposite lining so you can add personalized player names and your character stats to the kicks you.
Even the Chuck 70 shoe box has been lovingly transformed into Mimiko, the creature found in “Monster Manuel” and the D&D: Honor Among Thieves film. There are also smaller in-game nods to all the pairings, including the text “The Dice Taketh Away” (which I've definitely said on more than one occasion during my campaign).
The clothing collection highlights some neat classics D&D design elements on hats, sweatshirts, t-shirts and shorts — like Dave Trampier's cover for Advanced Dungeons & Dragons players manual or its illustration from the first edition Monster Manual. Some design elements and illustrations will also be available at Conversation from you customization platform so you can apply them to your special party outfits. Personally, I can't get enough of the trucker hat that says “Watch out…the Dungeon Master is smiling at you!” (which is when you should probably say your last words before a TPK).
