Courtney Love could have a cruel summer meeting Swifties after saying her favorite artist, Taylor Swift, is neither important nor interesting.
In a new interview with The standard Promoting Love's BBC Radio series celebrating women in music (oh, the irony), the Hole singer had no kind words to say about Swift. “Taylor isn't important,” she said. “She may be a safe space for girls and she's probably the Madonna of today, but she's not interesting as an artist.”

Making room to piss off another fan base, Love also said that Beyoncé is not her cup of tea, although she appreciates the “concept” of Queen Bey's latest album. COWBOY PURSE. “I like the idea of Beyoncé making a country record because it's about black women entering spaces where only white women were allowed before,” she explained. “I just don't like her music.”
Love has even soured toward Lana Del Rey, who he once called one of the only “two true musical geniuses” alongside her late husband Kurt Cobain: “I haven't liked Lana since she covered a John Denver, and I think she really should take seven years off. Until ‘Take Me Home Country Roads’ she thought she was cool.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Love praised the artists who helped shape it, including Patti Smith, Nina Simone, PJ Harvey, Julie London, Joni Mitchell and Debbie Harry. Without a hint of self-awareness, she also said that her show aimed to “redeem some of the women who have been treated so badly by the recording industry,” adding: “Women are still marginalized in this industry, even though are more successful.”
Whether or not you agree with Love's assessment of Swift's music, there's no doubting her impact on music. Earlier this year, she became the first artist to win four Grammy Awards for Album of the Year ahead of her upcoming LP, He Department of Tortured Poetsthat will break all kinds of records when it arrives this Friday.
Next month, Swift will kick off the European and UK leg (get tickets here) from his “Eras Tour” with Paramore. Later this year, he will embark on a North American tour (take a seat here) with Gracie Abrams.
