Crystal Aikin's “He Can Handle It” climbs to No. 1 Advertising signGospel Airplay Chart (dated June 29). The single was up 2% in the June 14-20 games, according to Luminate.
The song, which was recorded live, was co-written by Nate Bean and Ayron Lewis.
Aikin, from Tacoma, Washington, lands her first chart topper in her third appearance on Gospel Airplay. It follows “So Amazing”, which reached No. 21 in March 2015, and “I Desire More”, which reached No. 18 in June 2009.
Aikin has scored two top 10s in her two Top Gospel Albums appearances. All I need peaked at No. 8 in February 2015, after opening with her self-titled debut and peaking at No. 3 in January 2009.
Aikin, who earned a degree in nursing from Pacific Lutheran University, won the first season of BET's Best Sunday in 2007. Genre mainstay Kirk Franklin hosted the talent show from that year until 2021.
“Look” at Koryn Hawthorne
Also on Gospel Airplay, Koryn Hawthorne adds her fourth top 10 as “Look at God” climbs 12-9 (up 23%). The song, written by the Abbeville, La., native, follows “Speak to Me,” which became her second No. 1 in April 2021, leading for a week. Her debut entry “Won't He Do It” began a 19-week mandate in March 2018, and “Unstoppable” reached No. 5 in June 2019.
On the Hot Gospel Songs multi-metric chart, Hawthorne has three chart-toppers. As a finalist on NBC's eighth season The voiceled with “How Great Thou Art”, which he performed on the show, for one week in April 2015. “Won't He Do It” reigned for 41 weeks beginning in March 2018, the longest chart reign ever by female artist and “Speak to Me” reigned for 19 frames as of November 2020.
