Daft Punk are coming face to face in a whole new way, with New York's Madame Tussauds unveiling new wax figures of the French duo.
Capturing the couple — Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo — at Random access memories-silk and velvet period costumes, the figures debuted at the facility on Tuesday (Feb. 27.) The duo are installed in the facility's “Glow Gala” area, inspired by New York's gala scene, with a crew of nearby figures including Ariana Grande, Matthew McConaughey, Rihanna and Beyoncé.
With the designers not having to focus on the helmeted artists' faces, the focus for this project was on the clothing, with the Daft Punk act wearing custom replicas of Saint Laurent's black sequined Le Smoking tuxedo suits designed by Hedi Slimane for Daft Punk Random access memories work. The figures extend a massive 10-year celebration of the pair's album of the Year Grammy winner.
The figures were first revealed at a party at Brooklyn club Avant Gardner, in collaboration with French DJ collective Maison Disco.
“As Daft Punk and Madame Tussauds share French origins, this collaboration is a testament to the innovation and artistic brilliance of those who came before us and the ability of music and art to transcend global boundaries,” Ben Shapiro, executive marketing at Madame Tussauds. New York, it says in a statement. “We are honored to welcome fans from 'Around the World' to the attraction to see their idols 'One More Time' and celebrate the legacy of Daft Punk and French House music.”
Daft Punk are the latest in a long line of musicians to receive the iconic Madame Tussauds treatment, with Bad Bunny, Travis Barker and RuPaul getting figures recently. The history of Madame Tussauds dates back to 1835 in London, when a wax museum was founded by the French wax sculptor Marie Tussaud.
