Dan Hennessey, the voice actor known for his roles in children's shows such as Little Bear, The Care Bearsand more, he has died. He was 82 years old.
News of Hennessey's death broke on Tuesday, November 19, and his family confirmed TMZ who died in his sleep while at home, due to complications resulting from Parkinson's disease.
Born in 1941 in Toronto, Canada, Hennessey became involved in children's entertainment in the 1970s and eventually established himself as a staple of children's animated television shows. Among his best-known roles are Father Bear in Little BearBraveheart the Lion in The Care Bearsand Chief Quimby in Inspector Gadget.
Hennessey did voice work for other notable animated series in the '80s and '90s, including Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, Dinosaurs, Robocop, Police Academy: The Animated Series, police, beetle juice, The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, the raccoons, Babar, Super Mario World, The Adventures of Tintin, Blacksmith, Monstrous Strength, X-Men, flaming dragonsand many more.
A statement from Hennessey’s family read: “We are so touched by all those who tell us how he impacted them through his craft, from the stage to voice acting and directing. We take comfort in the fact that he brought comfort to a generation of children around the world by giving voice to beloved animated characters like Braveheart Lion and Father Bear, who were the embodiment of his kind and exuberant personality. That his contributions to voice acting and his infectious spirit live on in perpetuity is a unique gift to those who greatly mourn his loss. “He truly was the bravest heart we knew.”
