Three decades after audiences discovered what exactly was inside the box, David Fincher's film se7en is set to receive an official 4K Ultra HD release. Pre-orders are ongoing for the film for the anniversary release on January 7. To celebrate the legacy of the 1995 release, se7en It will also premiere in IMAX for the first time with a limited release on more than 150 screens across the United States starting January 3.
Fincher's second feature film was an unexpected hit upon its release and has remained in the conversation for the past three decades as a notable crime drama. The 4K Ultra HD release will contain a host of bonus features, including commentary by Fincher and the film's stars Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt, a half-dozen deleted scenes, and footage from proposed alternate endings. While studio heads were concerned about the violent and shocking nature of the ending, the ending ultimately became the factor that solidified se7en as a basic element of the genre.
30 years later, se7en is remembered as one of the projects that solidified Fincher's reputation as a visually strong and deeply stylistic force behind the camera. It also marked a turning point for Brad Pitt, who was working to establish himself as a true dramatic actor.
The reissue will also be available on Blu-ray and digitally.
