One of culture's most vocal victims of domestic abuse is speaking out again. Dee Barnes says his video Didi attacks Cassie triggers.
As mentionted with News One The former TV music personality also shared her frustration with the Bad Boy Entertainment mogul. On Friday, May 17, she took to social media and not only expressed her displeasure at the video of Diddy beating up his ex-love, but also shared that it brought back flashbacks to the brutal assault she suffered at the hands of Dr. Dre.
“Watching this video is extremely moving. #DrDre he punched me, hit me, kicked me and threw me out. #Concussion” he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. He would also go on to say “I am disgusted and disappointed with Sean Combs. I stand with #Cassi, #KimPorter and all other victims of his violent abuse.” in a separate post.
On January 27, 1991 Dee Barnes claims that Dr. Dre approached her at a record release party in Hollywood, California. According to Rolling Stones Magazine states that she “began banging her head and the right side of her body repeatedly against a brick wall near the stairs,” while his bodyguard is said to be holding back a crowd at gunpoint. But the assault didn't stop there as the NWA founding member began kicking her after failing to throw her off the stairs. She managed to escape into a women's bathroom but was unfortunately followed by the producer who then “grabbed her again from behind the hair and punched her in the back of the head”. He and his bodyguard fled the scene a short time later.
Dee Barnes claims this incident stemmed from an interview she gave to Ice Cube Blow it up where Don Mega mocked the voice of the DOC after nearly losing his life in a car accident. He later filed a lawsuit against Dr. Dre for $22.75 million that was privately settled out of court.
In an interview at The provocative, Dr. Dre discussed the incident in detail and expressed his remorse. “There is absolutely no justification for this. No woman should ever be treated this way,” she said. “Any man who puts his hands on a woman is an idiot. He is out of his mind and I was out of my mind at the time. I was surprised. I paid for it. I regret that and apologized for that.”
Dee Barnes accepted Dr. Dre's apology and welcomed the claim, but she did challenge his time.
