Kicking off what promises to be another unforgettable summer, Def Leppard today unveils a new standalone single titled “Just Like 73” featuring Tom Morello! The song will arrive on 7” vinyl on August 2, 2024 and will be available in a special color variant only through the band's D2C store and in black at all retail stores. Causing a sensation, BBC Radio 2 just world premiered the song as a “Global Exclusive” this morning.
“Just Like 73” notably marks the first collaboration between the iconic rock titans and the legendary guitarist, sonic innovator and co-founder of Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave. The single revolves around a classic Def Leppard stomp driven by a robust, stadium-sized beat, chunky riffs and signature singing. “Rock with me, like 73!” Meanwhile, a spectacular gang vocal gives way to a signature, searing solo from Morello. The instantly recognizable slam bar resonates as he shreds at lightning speed into one final nodding hook.
Joe Elliott shares about the collaboration: “It encapsulates an era that was deeply etched in our DNA. “We wanted to celebrate that important and glorious moment.”
“When I saw David Bowie on television in 1972-73, everything I thought I knew about music went from black and white to vivid Technicolor,” adds Phil Collen. “Our song 'Just Like 73' represents that awakening.”
“I had a great time playing a solo on “Just Like 73,” says Tom Morello. “I played 'Rock Of Ages' in my college cover band almost 40 years ago and here Def Leppard continues to triumph in the stadiums with a new tune that is one of their best.”
