Deicide has offered details about their new album Banished by sin, arriving on April 26. The death metal veterans also released a new single titled “Sever the Tongue.”
After teasing the album with a Christmas surprise in the form of the festive lead single “Bury the Cross…with Your Christ,” frontman Glen Benton and company have revealed the full information about Banished by sinwhich includes 12 tracks and is adorned with a rendition of the iconic demon medallion from the band's 1990 debut LP.
Picking up where the band left off with their Christmas present, “Sever the Tongue” is a decadent brand of brutality, with barrages of technical riffs and a relentless torrent of Benton's guttural heresy. The David Brodsky-directed music video is gory and equally blasphemous (in fact, the tongues are cut out), so watch it with discretion.
“I've been sitting in a dark corner for several years,” Benton revealed in the album announcement. “Some things have come into my life that have shaken me and changed me. I was inspired when writing this new album; It was like flipping a switch. I no longer have the annoyance of other people's hang-ups interfering with what I have and want to do. I stopped pursuing the happiness of others a long time ago. The guy who started this shit is back! And it’s good to be back!”
As for the musical direction of the new album, Benton said Deicide is “back to the '90s style” with some “modern stuff too.”
“It is Deicide as it should be,” he stated.
