Munchkin Kat is back with a new single, “UZUMAKI,” dragging listeners into a twisted realm where glitch-hop and bass collide.
The song's title derives from the work of famed horror manga artist Junji Ito, whose beloved series of the same name was inspired by iconic fantasy writer HP Lovecraft. Ito's surreal story is about a quiet town that goes crazy when people become obsessed with the concept of spirals.
Munchkin Kat beautifully channels Ito's timeless work through a dark, disorienting track with a bass that writhes like a living, breathing entity. The track's relentless momentum mimics the inescapable pull of Ito's spirals, each cinematic layer coiling tighter around our ears.
Meanwhile, the producer's textured synths slide eerily through the mix while glitchy percussion echoes like bones in a digitized graveyard. To that end, “UZUMAKI” doesn't just pay homage to horror: it becomes horror, transforming Ito's visual nightmares into a mind-numbing aural bombardment.
