Dexter: Original Sin, a prequel series to Showtime’s Dexter, has confirmed its cast: Christian Slater, Patrick Gibson (Shadow and Bone), and Molly Brown (Senior Year) are set to headline the new show.
Set in 1991 in Miami 15 years before the original Dexter series, Dexter: Original Sin follows a young Dexter Morgan (Gibson) becoming a “serial killer in-training” with the guidance of his adoptive father, mentor, and homicide detective Harry Morgan (Slater).
The official logline reads: “Dexter: Original Sin follows Dexter as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry, he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcements’ radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.”
The Dexter prequel arrives after Showtime pulled the plug on Dexter: New Blood, the sequel series that took place eight years after the original Dexter series concluded. Despite being a hit with audiences, the show folded as Paramount+ absorbed Showtime, and the network began eyeing a prequel series instead. Michael C. Hall, star of the original series, will return as an executive producer on Dexter: Original Sin.
Dexter: Original Sin is set to arrive on Paramount+ with Showtime later this year.
