“This beats an 80-year life in the business,” says actor after tying Norman Lear for biggest Emmy winner ever
Dick Van Dyke became the oldest Daytime Emmy winner ever Friday as the 98-year-old actor was honored for his guest role on the soap opera Days of our Lives.
“I feel like a late-night TV spy,” Van Dyke said in his acceptance speech for Best Guest Performer in a Daytime Drama Series. “I am the oldest candidate in history. I can not believe it. I've been playing old men all my life. If I had known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself!”

The actor has also won four Primetime Emmys, a Grammy and a Tony, leaving him one Oscar shy of EGOT status.
“I'm 98 years old, can you believe it? That goes beyond an 80-year life in the business,” Van Dyke told the Daytime Emmy Awards audience. “I love you, God bless you.”
With the win, Van Dyke tied for the oldest person ever to win an Emmy, as legendary television writer and producer Norman Lear was also 98 when the latter won for outstanding live variety in 2020. The pair are also tied for the oldest to have ever win one of the Big Four awards (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony).
