The streaming TV market has become so crowded, but Disney hopes that this latest move has made it very simple for customers looking to cut the cord and not break the bank in the process.
Disney's three pack is finally all under Disney+roof with ESPN+ late version in composition. The faction has already introduced Hulu and a streaming platform where you can watch everything House of the Mouse and Marvel Studios.
ESPN+ hit the lineup on Wednesday, December 4th. He gets his own tile at Disney+ home screen and will give subscribers access of ESPN library, studio broadcasts and select live sporting events.
Deadline exhibitions that during a Zoom briefing with the press, executives said the initial sports programming offering will include NBA and WNBA games, Australian Open tennis and long-running studio shows such as Sorry for the Interruption. This latest move comes as Disney still plans to launch a standalone “flagship” ESPN streaming service in the fall of 2025, which ironically will also be live on the streaming platform, according to the website.
Talking on the go, Disney+'s President Alisa Bowden called it “the next step in both its evolution Disney+ and also of ESPN streaming future.”
When asked why current ESPN+ Subscribers will be incentivized to keep their subscriptions to the standalone streaming service, Disney said, aiming to reach casual sports fans offering live sporting events they might not come to ESPN for.
Per Deadline:
John Lasker, SVP of ESPN+, said the 5,000 live events that will be offered through Disney+ to bundle subscribers in the first 90 days represent “a tiny fraction” of the 30,000 events available each year on ESPN+. “Part of the design is to drive engagement and interest in sports to a casual sports fan who might not otherwise come to ESPN through their normal media behavior. So it doesn't create an alternative to ESPN or ESPN+, but more of an expanded reach opportunity.”
It just sounds like another potential price hike. Just saying.
