DMITRY WILD – ROCK-n-ROLL is MY BUSINESS – SINGLE REVIEW
By Ralph Beauchamp
Dmitri Wilde he is a modern man of the ages. He is a poet, writer, actor, artist but above all a unique musical talent. He recently released a two-track single with the A-side being the demonic, 'Rock-n-Roll is My Business'. The B-side is another bold track entitled “Son of a Gun”. Both songs deliver cinematic yet cheeky vocals combined with groove laden arrangements. WildHis voice has a unique texture that requires control.
“Rock-n-Roll is My Business” is full of addictive riffs and inventive instrumentation. The combination of genres is absolutely fantastic. Wild he invests various elements in his music, such as spaghetti western guitar riffs with ska horns and punk verve. His songwriting is fearless. He invents truly massive pieces of musical art that go beyond the ordinary. Every note is truly amazing. His talent is far beyond the accepted social standards. Wild he is fearless in creating his dynamic compositions. A true Renaissance man.
The principle behind “Rock-n-Roll is my business” is the old story of the diabolical tit for tat. Sign on the dotted line and you're suddenly famous. The video accompanying the track is also unforgettable and full of surprises.
Wild plays the hardest working figure behind the music industry in a “A day in the life of…” kind of way as Diablo drives to work in a black mustang, signing contracts, playing vintage guitar and dancing with the cast. The Rockstar is played by Jesse D. Leach (Killswitch Engage) and The Father by Byron Frayne, who also recorded the B-side 'Son of a Gun'. The video also features burlesque dancer and up-and-coming singer Tryst La Noir and Purple Goddess, who was the top pole dancer to appear on tour with Snoop Dog.
“Rock-n-Roll Is My Business” was inspired by an experience Dmitri Wilde had at a business conference. When asked “What's your job?”he realized that he was at odds with the other businessmen and experts present, finally answering “Rock-n-Roll is my business“. Produced by Dmitri Wilde, “Rock-n-Roll is My Business” was mixed and mastered by Will Hensley (Coldplay, Travis, Dream Theater, Ben Folds, Shakira, My Morning Jacket, The Wombats), while the title track was recorded by Andy Cass on Sleeper Cave Records. in Western Mass, MA.
The B-side track is equally impressive. “Son of a Gun” is both fun and lively. It continues the vigor and passion of 'Rock-n-Roll is My Business'. Horns blare with dynamic propulsion. The backbeat is masterful while WildHis voice is fervent with a huge rhythm full of tension.
If you like artists like The Cramps, Iggy Pop, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club or David Bowie, Dmitri Wilde it's your cup of tea.
