Whether it's Megan Thee Stallion vs. Nicki Minaj, Drake and J. Cole vs. Kendrick Lamar and Future, or the City Girls feuding with each other, 2024 is full of rap beefs. The two most recent rap stars to jump into the ring are “What It Is” creator Doechii and emcee “212” Azealia Banks, who jumped in first. It all started when Doechii shared some footage from an art shoot on the social media platform on Saturday (April 6). In her caption, she mused, “Ok…what should our fandom name be?”
In response to Doechii's question to her fans, Banks replied, “We should definitely call them 'wannabe's,'” implying that Doechii and her supporters are mere facsimiles of herself and her fans.
Doechii quickly clapped back, commenting, “@azealiabanksforever the first time you came for me I let it slip out of respect for my elders. It's not my fault you sell busy soap and I sell platinum records. LEAVE me alone please.”
The RIAA awarded a platinum certification on “What It Is” in February. Banks, by comparison, has no singles or albums certified by the RIAA.

Doechii, for her part, is enjoying the release of her latest single – the homegrown single “Alter Ego” – which features fellow Florida City Girls' JT.
Since signing to Capitol Records and Top Dawg Entertainment in 2022, Doechii has enjoyed some of her biggest commercial success to date, including a top 40 Billboard Hot 100 hit with the Kodak-assisted “What It Is” Black and a collaboration with Billboard 200. superstar SZA (“Persuasive”).
